History

In 2018 trusts around England celebrated 70 years since the launch of the NHS. The hospital was founded in 1900. Within the original building it housed 289 beds. Southampton Borough Council took responsibility for the hospital in 1929, and then was known as the Borough Hospital. The National Health Service came into being in 1948, and this is when the hospital took it's present name.
